We are excited to be here and introduce you all to our company! We’ve been thinking about what to write about in our first post. There are so many different things we want to talk about and hear from you about - the options are endless! So, after much consideration, we decided to write about the direction that we feel that many companies are going or should at least consider going in regards to hiring.
When we first started on this crazy journey (one day we will tell you about that), we talked about why we wanted to start CareerFlex. It mostly boiled down to creating a solution for a problem that the three of us faced: wanting to find meaningful work but with a flexible work schedule. After doing some research, we found out that we weren’t alone. There is a huge shift in the way work is perceived and what employees want from a job. We’ve all heard that the days of working for a single company for your entire career are long gone, but did you know that people are actively seeking and demanding a more balanced approach to their jobs? In fact, millennialsmake up the biggest chunk of the workforce and state that work-life balance is the second most important consideration when choosing an employer. This will dictate the direction of a career, not just for millennials but for everyone, in the years to come.
As any employer will tell you, keeping your employees happy is important for many reasons including employee satisfaction, productivity, retention and recruiting. While not all companies can have in-house dining options, or spas, there are other ways companies can keep employees happy. Providing feedback, allowing for creativity, providing a certain degree of autonomy, and providing flexibility are all things that can easily be incorporated into any company culture. And, according to one study we found, it won’t be long before the vast majority of companies have policies in place to allow for greater flexibility in the workplace to meet the demands of their employees.
We would love to hear your stories! If are a career seeker, tell us about your journey, and if you are an employer, tell us about some of your best practices. Good luck to everyone in their search for the perfect job and the perfect candidate!
